ASSISTANT ENGINEER OR ASSISTANT TO ENGINEER

(ONLY ONE POSITION WILL BE FILLED)

For Madison County Secondary Road Department.


Madison County is accepting applicants to fill ONE position of Assistant Engineer or Assistant to Engineer.


The position is responsible for the development of engineering projects under the direction of the County Engineer and includes assistance in the planning, surveying, design, drafting, construction inspection, and material testing of secondary road projects. Responds to citizen inquiries and requests; provides feedback and follows up with County residents to ensure concerns are adequately addressed.


Qualified applicants must have a degree in Civil Engineering and have knowledge and/or experience in the planning, designing and execution of road, bridge, and drainage maintenance and construction projects OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Applicants must possess a professional engineering license, OR be registered as an Engineer in Training, OR Certified Engineer Technician. A professional engineer in the State of lowa is preferred, but Madison County will consider
applicants who are completing a course of study in a related field. A valid Iowa driver's license and safe driving record will be required.


Applicants shall have, or be able to obtain, Iowa DOT certifications in HMA, PCC and Aggregate Technician inspection, have knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, Ms-Office, and modern surveying equipment. Effective written and oral communication skills are a requirement of this position, along with the ability to establish working relationships and convey information with co-workers, contractors, offtcials, and the public.


Salary for this position is $80,000 to $105,000, and is negotiable depending upon experience and qualification. Paid leave time package is included with employment. Medical & life benefits included. IPERS retirement package. Great working hours. Normal hours are five (5), 8-hour days, Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Summer hours are four (4), 1O-hours days, Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR – DRAINAGE CREW for Madison County Secondary Road Department.

 

Requirements:  Possess a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License, and pre-employment drug testing.  Must have knowledge of construction practices and various equipment and tools needed for construction.  Medium to heavy equipment and physical construction experience required. 

 

The starting wage is $28.29 per hour with a $0.25 increase per hour after 90 days.  Longevity pay for every completed year of service.  Paid leave time package is included with employment.  Medical & life benefits included.  IPERS retirement package.  Great working hours.  Normal hours are five (5), 8-hour days, Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Summer hours are four (4), 10-hours days, Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Position: Deputy Sheriff

Under general supervision of the Sheriff, exercises responsibilities for the enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare throughout Madison County. Exercises independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations while exercising safety practices and procedures. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions.

 

Hourly salary up to $40.00/hr. (not including shift differential and longevity) based on qualifications, effective July 1, 2026. Madison County offers lateral transfers, paid vacations, and every other weekend off. DEPUTY ASSESSOR / APPRAISER MADISON COUNTY ASSESSOR’S OFFICE

 

The Madison County Assessor’s Office is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented professional to assist with the discovery, listing, and valuation of residential and agricultural properties. This role includes both office and field work, providing customer service to taxpayers, conducting property inspections, processing credits and exemptions, and maintaining accurate assessment records.

 

High school diploma required; degree or construction/appraisal experience preferred. 2–4 years of relevant real estate or appraisal experience encouraged. Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver’s license. Must appear—or be eligible to appear—on the Iowa Department of Revenue’s list of eligible Deputy Assessors.
Compensation to be commensurate with relevant experience. Standard operational hours are five 8-hour days, Monday through Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.
